چکیده

The treatment of tibial shaft fractures is discussed with emphasis given to plate and screw fixation. A review of plate fixation of 65 tibial fractures is presented with average followup of 4.37 years. When reserved for unstable fractures with minor soft tissue disruption, internal fixation by the use of plates and screws resulted in a small incidence of deformity and shortening, with little risk of local complications. Comparison of our incidence of complications with those previously published illustrate that serious complications are mainly a result of the type and severity of the initial trauma. Some technical considerations are briefly discussed. Recommendations are proposed for the treatment of the various types of tibial shaft fractures.

One-Stage External Fixation Using a Locking Plate: Experience in 116 Tibial Fractures.

The authors report the results of 1-stage external fixation using a locking plate in 116 tibial fractures (85 closed and 31 open). The patients were followed for an average of 22 months. The mean duration of surgery was 42 minutes. The mean fracture healing time was 12 weeks for proximal, 20 weeks for shaft, 14 weeks for distal, and 24 weeks for multisegmental tibial fractures. Nonunion, deep i...

A comparison of 30-day complications following plate fixation versus intramedullary nailing of closed extra-articular tibia fractures.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Tibial shaft fractures are often treated by intramedullary nailing (IMN) or plate fixation. Our purpose was to compare the 30-day complication rates between IMN and plate fixation of extra-articular tibial fractures. MATERIALS AND METHODS We conducted a retrospective analysis of prospectively collected patient demographics, comorbidities, and 30 day complications of iso...

Closed tibial shaft fractures: management and treatment complications. A review of the prospective literature.

OBJECTIVE To compare the results and complications of the various modalities for treating closed fractures of the tibial shaft described in the prospective literature. DATA SOURCES A MEDLINE search of the English language literature from 1966 to 1999 was conducted using the MeSH heading "tibial fractures." Studies pertaining to the management of closed tibial shaft fractures were reviewed, an...

Minimally Invasive Plate Osteosynthesis with Conventional Compression Plate for Diaphyseal Tibia Fracture.

The diaphyseal tibia fracture is best treated with intramedullary nail but in some cases where the nail is not applicable, plate fixation will be the next option of fixation. The extensile anterior approach is normally used for conventional compression plate fixation in tibia shaft fractures. The extensive surgical dissection may devitalizes the bony fragments and interfere with the fracture un...

A Comparison between Unreamed Locked Intramedullary Nailing and Plate-Screw Fixation in the Treatment of Tibial Diaphyseal Fractures

Background: Tibial diaphyseal fracture is the most common fracture of long bones. In Iran plating and undreamed tibial nailing (UTN) are the most commonly used methods and because of paucity of equipments such as c-arm and reaming sets, the reamed method is rarely used. This study compares these two methods. Methods: In a randomized clinical trial study including 100 patients (78 males, 22 fema...
